You Can Take the Freak Out of High School But You Can’t Take The Freak Out of The Freak

November 9, 2010

I was visiting my old high school today and people still stared at me like I was a freak.

I might be exaggerating, but that’s what it felt like.

High schools are weird. Everybody bullies everybody else. Friends punch friends on the leg or the arm just for the hell of it. Security guards and hall monitors bully students into subjugation.

Rules, rules, rules, bullies, bullies, bullies.

The place where freaks stand out, but where they are also completely ignored for everything besides their “weirdness”.

You only have to walk down the hallway of a high school to see the worst parts of humanity play out before your eyes, and the truly horrifying part is that it’s all just a microcosm of society. Our society. The society we live in. It’s all exactly the same.

Nobody will call an adult a bully. I wonder why that is? There are so many of them out there though.

It makes me sad.

Adult bullies are called terrorists. Like, say, George Dubya!

Terrorists, gotcha. Now the world makes sense again. It’s still bad, but it makes sense.

So not a freak and stop putting yourself down. You are an intelligent, talented, gracious and beautiful woman who doesn’t answer to anyone but herself.

Thanks for the impassioned vote of confidence Brian.

I didn’t feel sad because I felt like a freak (which I pretty much embraced in high school), but because high school…the state of our education system (and society at large) is rife with problems. To put it simply.

So? Life sucks Olga and that’s reality. Don’t let the problems of the world steal your youth. Enjoy… no embrace your unique passions.
