Canada Safe Haven for War Deserters?
There was a bill proposed that would have stopped the deportation of Irak war deserters back to the States. The House of Commons voted it down 143 to 136. Had the bill been passed Canada would have become (officially) a haven for conscientious war objectors, if they were dodging their countries military to avoid fighting a war that wasn’t supported by the UN. Apparently, some people saw this as a problem. Personally, I would have been proud to say I live in country that’s a sanctuary for conscientious war objectors.
