Pubic Hair: Its Functions

November 16, 2009

Here’s a quick lowdown on pubic hair and its biological functions:

  • Dissemination and collection of pheromones.
  • Protection from friction during intercourse.
  • Helps lubricate the area making movement smoother and more comfortable.
  • Warmth.
  • Indicator of sexual maturity.
  • Protects the sensitivity of your genitals.
  • Protects against infection.
  • Increases sexual attractiveness.

Well, those are the functions I have come across so far. Feel free to add your own crazy theory or add a function I may have overlooked.

In the days of naked cavemen or whenever people roamed around naked, body hair (such as in the armpits and on the mons of the vulva) functions to protect the more sensetive skin of the body from sunburns and weathering. I guesse this is covered by “protects the sensitivity of the genitals” but I wanted to be more specific.

It also protects against friction that occurs from normal things like walking about naked in your shower, reaching for the shampoo…
as well as from the friction of underwear as you stand up and sit down.
