Kate Harding’s Shapely Prose
I would like to bring your attention to one of the blogs in my blogroll: Kate Harding Shapely Prose. It is the self-proclaimed “home of the mordantly obese”, and contains enough information to change your conception of what it means to be overweight and as an added bonus it’s run by four very funny ladies.
Kate Harding is also the co-author (with Marianne Kirby The Rotund) of Lessons From The Fat-O-Sphere, which I haven’t read yet, but will add to the never ending list of books I absolutely have to read.
The first thing you should check out is Kate’s BMI slideshow. The slideshow features a series of full body photographs of a variety of different people (mostly women), and each photograph is indexed with the person’s weight, height and whether that person is considered to be underweight, normal, overweight, obese, or morbidly obese according to what category they fall into on the BMI chart. Most result will have you going WTF? It is the clearest possible example of why the Body Mass Index is a laughably flawed system.
